The key to the success of lost foam casting is to understand the importance of close cooperation among the casting plant, the user and the mold designer. The mould designer should first meet the requirements of users and the casting plant, and then meet the requirements of mould manufacturing and model forming.

Design points

1. Casting holes

In other types of casting methods, casting holes may be obtained by means of sand cores or by machining (for example, by drilling).Each casting has its own characteristics whether there are casting holes or not, but in general, the casting hole reduces the cost of subsequent machining, and the casting hole can be made directly on the mold through special mold design, such as the pin bolt, mandrel or other mechanism.

2. Reduce processing allowance

A correct EPC die design can reduce the weight of the casting by reducing the draft angle and machining allowance. This flexible design is not possible in many other casting methods and is one of the greatest advantages of the EPC process.

3. Eliminate complex and expensive sand cores

In the EPC process, the indispensable sand core in ordinary sand mold casting is eliminated, and the fixed and movable blocks in the EPC mold form a shape similar to the sand core in the foam model, that is, the shape of the sand core in the casting.
