Lost Foam Casting Equipment — Complete White, Yellow & Black Area Solution

RUIOU has focused on lost foam casting for more than twenty years, supplying LFC machinery for every stage of the process — from foam pattern pre-expansion in the White Area, through coating and drying in the Yellow Area, to sand molding and casting in the Black Area. Beyond individual machines, RUIOU also supplies complete mould plants, coating production plants, sand processing systems, and turnkey foundry solutions for new and expanding LFC lines.

WHAT IS LOST FOAM CASTING?

Lost foam casting (also called evaporative pattern casting, EPC) replaces a wax or sand-core pattern with an expendable EPS, EPMMA, or STMMA foam pattern. The pattern is coated, buried in unbonded sand, and vaporized by molten metal poured under vacuum — producing complex, near-net-shape castings without cores, parting lines, or draft angles. The process runs through three distinct production zones, so most sourcing decisions come down to which zone you're outfitting and how it needs to connect to the zones on either side.

WHITE AREA EQUIPMENT
Buyers here are sourcing the machines that turn raw EPS, EPMMA, or STMMA beads into a finished foam pattern.

YELLOW AREA EQUIPMENT
Coating consistency and drying uniformity here directly determine mold cavity stability and defect rate in the Black Area.

BLACK AREA EQUIPMENT — SAND MOLDING AND CASTING
This is where coated pattern clusters are buried in sand and cast, so buyers typically size equipment around sand box dimensions, negative pressure requirements, and turnover cycle time.

BEYOND THE THREE AREAS: FULL-LINE AND SUPPORTING EQUIPMENT

Sand Processing Equipment — sand reclamation, storage, conveying, and separation between casting cycles, including Dust Removal Machine, Sand Storage Hopper, Magnetic Separator, Turnover Machine, Cooler, Sand Process System, Sand Box Transfer Trolley, Screening Conveyor, Molding Sand Conveying Equipment, Chain Elevator, RO Sand Shower Feeder, and Sintered Coating Fragments handling.

HOW TO CHOOSE LOST FOAM CASTING EQUIPMENT FOR YOUR LINE
Most sourcing decisions come down to:

  • Which area to outfit first — a new line typically starts with White Area foam pattern machinery, since nothing downstream can run without patterns.

  • Casting size and cluster weight — this sets sand box dimensions, vibration table capacity, and negative pressure sizing in the Black Area.

  • Bead material — EPS, EPMMA, or STMMA — which determines pre-expander and molding machine settings in the White Area.

  • Coating type and drying method — steam, electric, or solar drying in the Yellow Area, based on your plant's available utilities.

  • Sand reuse requirements — whether you need a full sand processing loop or can start with basic storage and conveying.

  • Automation level — manual, semi-automatic, or fully automatic, which affects nearly every machine choice across all three areas.

WHY FOUNDRIES SOURCE THEIR LFC EQUIPMENT FROM RUIOU

  • More than 20 years focused specifically on lost foam casting, not general foundry machinery

  • Machinery covers all three production areas plus mould plants, coating plants, and sand processing, so one supplier can outfit a complete new line or fill gaps in an existing one

  • Turnkey engineering support for line layout, equipment sequencing, and utility planning (steam, compressed air, electrical)

FAQ
Q: What is lost foam casting equipment?
A: It covers the machinery used across the White, Yellow, and Black Areas of the evaporative pattern casting process — EPS pre-expanders and molding machines that make foam patterns, coating and drying equipment, and sand handling and vacuum casting systems that form the final metal part.

Q: Which area's equipment should I buy first for a new line?
A: Start with White Area machinery — a pre-expander, aging silo, and molding machine — since foam patterns are the input every other area depends on. Yellow and Black Area equipment can be sized once your pattern volume and casting weight are confirmed.

Q: Can RUIOU supply a complete production line, or only individual machines?
A: Both. RUIOU supplies standalone machines for all three areas, as well as complete mould plants, coating plants, and turnkey line design for new or expanding foundries.

Q: Do I need different equipment for iron, steel, and aluminum castings?
A: White and Yellow Area machinery is largely shared across metals; the main differences show up in Black Area sand handling, negative pressure settings, and coating specification, which are sized to your casting alloy and wall thickness.

Whether you're outfitting a single White Area pre-expander or a complete production line, RUIOU's lost foam casting equipment is engineered to work together across all three areas — reducing the integration risk of sourcing machines from multiple suppliers.
